Occurrences reduced

2015-2016

I needed to explore the boundaries of deconstruction and minimalism with my work. Following a heartbreak and struggling with depression, I created the "Occurrences Reduced" series, which consists of five parts and showcases five unique techniques for reducing the appearance of objects to the point where they become something entirely new.

“I visited your exhibit at Fontbonne today and am writing to express my admiration for your work and your well-considered installation in the Fine Arts Department Gallery. The work is enhanced by lamination, which provides an almost liquid sheen on top of the white fields in your images. The plant forms fading away behind the focal plane are elegant, but the several works which moved me most had to do with slitlike darts through whiteness as if you'd photographed melting wheel tracks in the snow. These are also alphabetical in aspect, perhaps preparing me to see the discarded pipe cleaner ampersand in the parking lot as I left the exhibit.”

Out of nowhere, we wander

2017

The “Out of Nowhere we wander” art series features figures depicted as distant and elusive. They appear to wander in an undefined space, creating a sense of mystery and intrigue. Hawagri uses scale and perspective to challenge the viewer's perception, making some figures seem small and far away yet still prominent and impactful. The minimalist approach emphasizes the figures' form and movement, making them the piece’s focal point. The series invites the viewer to contemplate the meaning of these wandering figures and their place in the world.
